WhitePages.com to Power Residential Directory Assistance Service on MSN
WhitePages.com now positioned as the largest online residential directory assistance service
SEATTLE-April 4, 2005
WhitePages.com, Inc., a leading provider of online directory assistance services, today announced that it will power MSN's White Pages channel in the U.S. The deal positions WhitePages.com as the largest online residential directory assistance service, as the deal provides a substantial increase in unique visitors and an estimated 25 percent increase in page views. More than 380 million unique users visit MSN each month worldwide.
Beginning April 1, WhitePages.com will power the white pages directory assistance service located on the MSN home page under "Look it Up." Because directory assistance is WhitePages.com's core competency, MSN site visitors will receive an enhanced consumer experience, which includes fresher, more accurate data, an intuitive user interface and comprehensive results including area code maps. The site will also mirror the recently launched new look and feel of MSN.
"We are excited to work with WhitePages.com as our exclusive partner on MSN's White Pages channel in the U.S., based on the company's success at managing large volumes of traffic and rapid delivery of accurate contact information," said Adam Sohn, MSN director of global sales and marketing PR for Microsoft Corp. "After an in-depth evaluation, WhitePages.com was the company offering the most useful and innovative services to meet the contact information needs of our consumers. The MSN vision is to empower people globally through information, software and services that help them find, discover and experience what they want to online."
"Being selected by MSN validates our focus on making WhitePages.com Network the best free people search resource on the Internet," said Max Bardon, president and CEO of WhitePages.com, Inc. "This relationship will significantly increase the traffic of WhitePages.com Network, allowing us to deliver even greater value to our advertisers. Signing MSN represents a major milestone to our strong track record of growth, and positions WhitePages.com Network as the definitive leader in its category."
Over the past year, WhitePages.com has grown its partner base to over 1,300 companies. The MSN deal comes on the heels of WhitePages.com's agreement to power the online white pages for Yellow Pages Group, the official publisher of Bell Canada's print directories and provider of Canada's leading online directories including Canada411.ca and YellowPages.ca.
"Companies providing residential directory assistance information are seeing growth in traffic as more consumers head online to find up-to-date and free contact information," said Kathleen Pierz, managing partner at The Pierz Group. "Large portals aim to provide site visitors with the highest quality data and a flawless user experience, and are increasingly partnering with companies focused on delivering directory assistance to achieve this. As a result, advertisers on directory assistance sites will benefit from a surge in traffic and increase in ad inventory."
Based on internal estimates, with the addition of MSN, WhitePages.com Network now represents 30 percent of the online directory assistance market in the United States and Canada. The relationship with MSN enables WhitePages.com Network to increase value and performance for their advertisers which include Vonage, Verizon, Allstate, GM, and State Farm.
