Books for Books Fundraiser Aims to Keep Wake County Students Reading by Recycling WhitePages Phone Books
WhitePages.com and Wake County elementary schools partner to raise $20,000 for new books
RALEIGH, NC -April 4, 2005
WhitePages.com, a leading provider of online directory assistance services, in conjunction with several Wake County elementary schools today announced "Books for Books," a fundraising campaign to help purchase books and reading materials for thousands of Wake County students. For each white pages phonebook recycled in April, WhitePages.com will donate $1.00 to participating elementary schools, up to $20,000.
Books for Books will provide funds critical for keeping all types of books in the hands of Wake County's children. Throughout the month of April, residents can recycle old and unwanted white pages phonebooks at participating elementary schools including Fuquay-Varina Elementary, Salem Elementary, Lead Mine Elementary, Lockhart Elementary, Middle Creek Elementary, Poe Elementary, Swift Creek Elementary, West Lake Elementary and Northwoods Elementary. Residents are encouraged to spread the word to their families, friends and neighbors to help the schools reach their goal of $20,000.
"Books for Books is a vital fundraiser that will help keep books in the hands of Wake County's children," said Debbie Madia, PTA representative for Swift Creek Elementary. "Through the support of the community, we hope to reach our goal of $20,000 which will be instrumental in purchasing thousands of books for Wake County students. We encourage all residents to support reading in our schools by recycling their white pages phonebook throughout the month of April."
"With the growing popularity of the Internet, there's no need for a white pages phonebook as more accurate contact information can be quickly found online," said Max Bardon, president and CEO of WhitePages.com, Inc. "Books for Books presents an easy way for Wake County residents to support reading and literacy in their hometown. The money raised by Books for Books will leave a lasting impact on Wake County and support reading by children for years to come."
