We've taken the initiative to be stewards of our planet.
Being Eco-friendly
Here is what we've been doing and encouraging to support an environmentally friendly environment:
- Composting
- Recycling (including a separate bin for plastic bags)
- Giving employees water bottles and coffee cups
- Providing reusable plates, cups, bowls and cutlery within our kitchen
- Purchasing recycled paper towels
- Using phosphate-free dishwashing detergent
- Biking to work
- Taking public transit (we provide employees with a subsidized bus pass)
- Utilizing our intranet for resources (rather than printing)
- Utilizing our data center to reduce power consumption
Ban the Phone Book
BanThePhoneBook.org was formed by WhitePages to educate consumers on the environmental impact of printing and distributing the white pages phone book. Our mission is to support both telephone companies and consumers in their efforts to curb the unsolicited, and unnecessary, printing and delivery of white pages phone books.
Our efforts are all about making a big environmental impact. Considering the technological improvements that are continuously occuring, it makes sense to transition from requiring printed phone books for all landline customers to supporting an "opt-in" program where consumers would instead request for a printed phone book. So many different and free alternatives exist that this is the perfect opportunity for us to ban the white pages phone book altogether.
Get Involved
There are a variety of ways you can participate in our initiative:
1. Sign the petition (at top right) to create an opt-in delivery program.
2. Use free online directories and mobile applications to find contact info.
3. Join our Facebook fan page and tell your friends.
