Academic standing: Graduating senior, summer before grad school at Stanford
Major: Computer Science/Human Computer Interaction
Current academic projects: An Android game for blind users
WhitePages team/mentor: Core Site/Blake Thomson
Why I chose WhitePages as my summer home: I really liked the culture at WP after interviewing on-site. It's small enough so that you can get to know everyone by name, and the Core Site team seems like a good match because I really enjoy Web stuff.
Eric Shih

Hometown: Cupertino, CA
University attending: University of California, Berkeley
Academic standing: Summer before senior year
Major: Simultaneous degress in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), and Business Administration
Current academic projects: Building a distributed chat server system in the cloud. Designing a database for an application similar to foursquare.
WhitePages team/mentor: Business Search/Joseph Hall
Why I chose WhitePages as my summer home: The small company environment and quality attention that I know I will receive at WhitePages over other larger companies drew me to WP. I feel that I will be able to work on a real product/feature and that my work will have an impact. Being in Seattle!
Jeffrey Booth

Hometown: Olympia, WA
University attending: University of Washington
Academic standing: Senior
Major: Computer Engineering
Current academic projects: Virtual drum kit
WhitePages team/mentor: Business Search/Ryan Forsyth
Why I chose WhitePages as my summer home: Each summer, I try a company of a different size. In terms of size, WhitePages is in between my last two internships: it's larger than the startups I worked at before, yet smaller than Facebook. In addition, WhitePages' rigorous application of the SCRUM development process will help me keep track of business priorities and manage my time more carefully.

WhitePages team/mentor: Mobile/Brent Newman
Why I chose WhitePages as my summer home: WP is a very promising company that I think I can learn a lot from, and I really want to explore the summer of Seattle!
Brendan Roof

Project(s) and deliverable(s): I had sole responsibility for creating the Test::Mimic Perl module. This module facilitated automatic object mocking to help with testing. The final part of my project was to apply Test::Mimic to a WhitePages system.
Something you learned from your internship that you didn't learn in class: Class assignments often had much of the structure already in place. My internship definitely helped me develop the ability to start a project from scratch and take it to completion.
What Brendan most enjoyed about his internship: Having the opportunity to work with and learn from a group of really smart people.
Why others should intern at WhitePages: WP is a great example of a top website built with industry standard technology. Learning the details of how everything works together is fascinating.
Most fun or memorable moment from his internship experience: Anything having to do with Sebastian was memorable.
What Brendan has been up to since graduation: I received, and happily accepted, a offer of full-time employment from WP after I completed my internship. Now I am beginning work at Google.
Mary Pimenova

Hometown: Moscow, Russia
University attended during internship: University of Washington
University standing during internship: Sophomore
Major: Computer Science
WhitePages team/mentor: Hiya!/Michael Squires
Project(s) and deliverable(s): I worked on machine learning algorithms for contact de-duplication and a metric collection system for the Hiya! contact manager.
Something you learned from your internship that you didn't learn in class: I learned about project workflow, version control, and working as a part of a larger team.
What Mary most enjoyed about her internship: I liked working on relatively open-ended projects. This gave me freedom to explore interesting approaches to solving problems.
Why others should intern at WhitePages: You get to work at a small company, where you can get to know just about everyone and just about everyone knows you. You'll also get to ship code that does something interesting and important.
Most fun or memorable moment from her internship experience: Sandwich Wednesdays with my team while we were working to launch Hiya! were really fun. I gained an appreciation for sandwiches :)
What Mary has been up to since graduation: Finishing her degree at UW
